The Call

A small group of men had a vision to instill their love of Jesus and their Christian values and beliefs into their sons. At the same time, these fathers wanted to deepen and strengthen their unique father/son relationship. The men wanted to be certain their sons knew:

  1. How to communicate a clear knowledge of who Jesus is and what it means to walk with Him.
  2. What it means to be a man.
  3. The specific time in their lives when they were blessed and lifted up by their father as a man.

The Father Foundations program was born out of this call and vision.

Our passion is to equip fathers in building a solid relational foundation with their sons. An idea for a program grew as we realized the critical importance of a father and how deeply a father’s role impacts all members of the family, community, and society.

History

In the fall of 2000, several fathers at the Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado partnered with their youth minister to create a father/son program. They shared similar visions for their sons, such as, ‘“Does my son really understand the basic tenets of the Christian faith?” “Will he know what it means to be an authentic man?” and “When will he know he’s made the transition from a boy to a man?”’ The goal was to create a program format as opposed to a weekend retreat experience. The program would provide a lasting legacy that the fathers would pass down to their sons. These dads wanted to lift their young adolescent boys to manhood and not allow culture, friends, teachers, or anyone else have the honor and privilege to do so.

Then in the spring of 2001, the first program was conducted. Over time the program has evolved. The materials have become more streamlined and activities have been added, such as a gun safety discussion and sporting clay event.

In 2014, the founders were led to take the program nationally and incorporated a non-profit organization entitled Father Foundations, Inc. Today with a board of directors and a small financial donation from a 91 year old WWII and Korean war hero, Father Foundations, Inc. seeks to minister to a larger audience of fathers. The program will expand to include daughters in 2016.

Father Foundations, Inc. was created to equip fathers and their sons and daughters to build a lifelong foundation. There is a lot of fun to be had along the way but this program will profoundly influences sons and daughters in their day-to-day lives as well as for eternity. This is a mandate to step into the battle; to win the winnable where we are called to win. Father Foundations will leverage and grow our initial local father/son program successes into a repeatable program that can be taught throughout the country.

This program will impact fathers and their families to step out and live the lives they are called to live.

Today’s fathers need help. They are bombarded daily from all sides, both inside and outside the home. The statistics are heart-stopping. Here are just four powerful examples of the impact of NOT having a father:

  1. 63% of teen suicides come from fatherless homes. That is five times the national average.
  2. 90% of all runaways and homeless children are from fatherless homes. That is 32 times the national average.
  3. 85% of children with behavioral problems come from fatherless homes. That is 20 times the national average.
  4. 75% of all adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers come from fatherless homes. That is 10 times the national average.
